L'articolo propone una nuova interpretazione del rapporto fra brevità testuale e aspetto teleologico delle biografie, compiendo un percorso storico-letterario dalle "Vite parallele" di Plutarco fino alle reinterpretazioni novecentesche del genere biografico. The article proposes a new interpretation of the relationship between textual brevity and the teleological aspect of biographies, following a historical-literary path from Plutarch's "Parallel Lives" to the twentieth-century reinterpretations of the biographical genre.

Three newly issued biographies deal with the life of Leopold von Ranke in very different ways. The essay underlines the strengths and the weaknesses of each one of them and raises some questions about the meaning of this scholarly interest in Ranke. Finally, it provides some considerations on the difficulty of defining, even now, the figure of the German historian.

Until recently, Philodemus’ treatise On Household Management (Περὶ οἰκονομίας, PHerc. 1424) has been mainly used as a source for the reconstruction of early Epicurean economic thought (especially of Metrodorus’ writing Περὶ πλούτου). Over the past few years, however, scholars have called attention to Philodemus’ creative (yet philosophically orthodox) readaptation of Epicurean ethical and social theories to the needs of contemporary Roman society. Celem artykułu recenzyjnego jest ocena biografii i Aleksandra Hilarego Połubińskiego pióra Andrzeja A. Majewskiego. Dokonano w nim analizy następujących jej elementów: wykorzystanej bazy źródłowej i literatury, właściwości doboru bohatera, konstrukcji pracy oraz postawionych w niej tez. W przypadku tych ostatnich największe zastrzeżenia wzbudziły: sposób przedstawienia Połubińskiego jako dowódcy wojskowego; sprowadzenie na dalszy plan rozważań jego kariery politycznej; zmarginalizowanie działalności gospodarczej; sposób przedstawienia klienteli Połubińskiego. In questa nota viene proposta l’analisi di un breve episodio che si legge nel libro primo del «Commentariorum liber de vita et gestis Bartholomaei Colei» (Vita di Bartolomeo Colleoni), biografia umanistica redatta da Antonio Cornazzano verso il 1472-1473. In questo episodio si trova una significativa allusione alla «Amphitryonis antiqua comoedia», cioè l’«Amphitruo» di Plauto, che conobbe una notevole fortuna e diffusione nella seconda metà del secolo XV.

This article presents the biography and intellectual legacy of Valencian sociologist Rafael L. Ninyoles (1943- 2019). It reviews his formative itinerary, his early contributions to the field of the sociology of language, his latest contributions to the sociology of cities and cultural spaces, and his key involvement in the promoti-on and consolidation of the sociological study of Valencian society. The article includes a note on public acknowledgements to the author, plus an annex with a selective bibliography aimed at serving the interested reader and the posthumous diffusion of Ninyoles? oeuvre.

Se ofrecen noticias sobre el nacimiento y el paso por la Universidad de Zaragoza del farmacéutico y botánico aragonés Antonio Campillo Marco, autor de numerosas obras de botánica, química, hidrología, aritmética o literatura, entre las que destaca su monumental manuscrito Orbe vegetale, en el que describe más de cinco mil especies de plantas. / Some news about the birth and the stay in the University of Zaragoza of the aragonese pharmacist and botanist Antonio Campillo Marco. He was the author of many works about Botany, Chemistry, Hidrology, Arithmetic or Literature, including his monumental handwritten work Orbe vegetale in which there are described over five thousand plant species.
Bayesian classification for dating archaeological sites via projectile points

Dating is a key element for archaeologists. We propose a Bayesian approach to provide chronology to sites that have neither radiocarbon dating nor clear stratigraphy and whose only information comes from lithic arrowheads. This classifier is based on the Dirichlet-multinomial inferential process and posterior predictive distributions. The procedure is applied to predict the period of a set of undated sites located in the east of the Iberian Peninsula during the IVth and IIIrd millennium cal. BC.
